What Happens to Blue?
The exhibition at Fabrika’s Project Space serves as a continuation of the narrative surrounding the color blue, building upon the previous installment showcased at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire. Within this exhibition, blue is explored as a multifaceted entity, simultaneously evoking notions of sacredness and sensuality, while also serving as a symbol of destruction and decline. The viewer is confronted with blue as a medium through which social interactions are facilitated, representing a transformation from its original sacred connotations.
The essence of the sacred is called into question in “What Happens to Blue,” as the exhibition critically examines various works pertaining to this issue. It prompts a reflection on the current state of decadence in Tbilisi, particularly its inclination towards embracing naivety and primitivism, as well as its tendency to engage in transgressive profanation, thereby leaving no room for political and cultural renewal. By questioning the fate of blue, the exhibition offers a profound critique that unites diverse artistic expressions, illuminating the present condition of Tbilisi and its potential implications for broader societal and cultural potentials.
