The SECRETARY http://www.secretary.international team will host third pre event of Tbilisi Architecture Biennial “Buildings are not enough” with the Theme “The Continuous Surface: Public Architecture and the Scale of the Population”.

“The Continuous Surface: Public Architecture and the Scale of the Population”

How are we to conceptualise the space that we own together, in common – the parliaments, tax offices, schools, hospitals and libraries of the European Welfare State? Drawing on recent installation work, the Swedish architecture office „Secretary“ interrogates and theorises the architecture of the public interior, making an argument that if the notion of a “public architecture” is to be valued, rethought, renovated, and retained, it must be thought in aggregate. Through images, texts, and design experiments, Secretary presents a series of engagements with this “continuous surface,” asking how the public interior might form a fertile ground for a future “megaprojective” architectural practice and politics.

SECRETARY is an architectural practice that is based in Stockholm, Sweden, that works across the fields of architecture, urban design, research, and installation. The office was founded in 2017 by architects Karin Matz (M.Arch), Rutger Sjögrim (M.Arch) and theorist and planner Dr Helen Runting (PhD Arch); the group has been awarded the Folkhem prize as part of the Young Swedish Designer of the Year exhibition, as well as being awarded several research and arts grants.
